Our collaboration with Unai Basurko and his school of sailing Pakea
At BayWa r.e., we are aware that sustainability is a global task and we still have a long way to go. That is why in 2024 we decided to join forces and embark together on a collaboration with Pakea sailing school.
At BayWa r.e. and Pakea, we are driven by sustainability and the environment, and together, we embark on an adventure along the Basque coast in order to achieve a cleaner and greener environment.
Unai Basurko and Pakea
Unai is a Basque sailor known above all for his involvement in the Solo Around-The-World, Vendee Globe, and Velux 5 Oceans regattas.
Basurko has also designed and led educational projects related to ocean sustainability. These include expeditions to Canada, Patagonia, and the Antarctic Peninsula.
He is also the founder of Pakea Sailing Experiences, a sailing school that offers on-board training and develops educational and environmental awareness projects.
We are working together to educate and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans.
Sea Starlight Project
In 2024 we joined the Sea Starlight Project to promote biodiversity conservation in the Basque Country.
Financed with Next Generation funds from the European Union, this initiative is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience plan, included in the Tourism Experiences Spain project of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
Its primary aim is to raise awareness about the critical importance of environmental stewardship by educating the public on the protection and conservation of our skies, stars, and oceans.
These are fundamental pillars that every crew must share and embrace.
