BayWa r.e. is expanding in Spain and Portugal, investing in the region’s rapidly growing wind and solar markets.
BayWa r.e. will now further develop activities in four key areas; services, energy solutions, solar trade and projects, and will expand its presence in Barcelona and open a new office in Madrid. There will be an opportunity to meet the team and find out more at GENERA 2019.
BayWa r.e. has been present in Spain since 2010 and has built solar and wind projects totalling over 130 MW, including the then largest solar rooftop installation in Spain with 3.4 MWp, and currently operates some 335 MW of renewable assets. In addition, in 2018 BayWa r.e. completed the 175 MWp Don Rodrigo subsidy-free solar plant, the largest of its kind in Europe.
At the beginning of 2019, two new Managing Directors came onboard together with Claus Bünermann, who has headed BayWa r.e. in Spain since 2016. Tomás García will lead on wind and solar projects, while Daniel Roca will head up BayWa r.e.’s expanding solar wholesale business.

Claus Bünermann will focus on leading the expansion of BayWa r.e.’s operation, maintenance and commercial management services business, together with its energy solutions business. “For our C&I clients, we have proven the huge potential for financial savings. Through our tailored turnkey solutions, companies can better control their energy consumption, save money and support the green energy transition”, added Claus Bünermann.
Daniel Roca, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Solar Systems S.L.U., will expand the wholesale business and provide installers with a ‘one-stop-shop’ for a comprehensive product portfolio, including BayWa r.e.’s mounting solution Novotegra. “We bring together local knowhow, well-founded industry experience and new business models from across Europe”, commented Daniel Roca. “The upcoming GENERA trade fair is a fantastic opportunity for us to present our first-class product portfolio and talk to visitors about how BayWa r.e. is uniquely placed to support them.”
Utility-scale solar and wind project development is another area for expansion for BayWa r.e. “Spain and Portugal are markets where solar and wind plants have already reached the long-awaited “grid-parity”, commented Tomás García, Managing Director of BayWa r.e.
